I need help improving my reading, writing, spelling or maths
If you want to improve your basic learning skills but don’t feel confident enough, Adult Literacy Services may be able to help:
Courses are designed to meet each person’s ability and aimed at supporting people to return to learning
Courses are offered in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and most centres offer one to one or small group tuition
This free and confidential service is open to anyone over 16 years, who is no longer at school, but wants to improve reading, writing, spelling, numeracy skills or learn about computers
Adult literacy centres also offer courses in personal development, basic computers and family learning
Courses are available in Irish in adult literacy centres in Gaeltacht areas
If you would like information about improving your literacy and numeracy then contact the National Adult Literacy Agency.

Distance learning service
If you can’t travel to one of the centres on a regular basis, the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) offers a distance learning service. This option allows you to study online by yourself or you can work with a tutor over the phone. You can study at your own pace and in your own time to improve your skills or get a national qualification. Visit www.writeon.ie for more information.
